Macreddin Brook Golf Club, Wicklow, Ireland

Paul McGinleyMacreddin Brook Golf Club will be the first ever Paul McGinley signature golf course and is being designed in conjunction with Roger Jones.

Having played golf courses all over the world Paul has formulated strong opinions on what he believes makes a good course and many of these elements are being incorporated into the design.

The golf course will be ‘traditional’ in its styling and is taking influences from the likes of Baltray in Co Louth, Ireland, Pinehurst in USA and Sunningdale in England. Roger said "Paul and I strongly believe that taking into account the surrounding landscape, the land itself and the overall ethos of Macreddin Village, around which the golf course is being built, a golf course that is natural and traditional will be the most appropriate and the most enjoyable for golfers. This ‘traditional’ styling will show itself in the greens, bunkering, swales and hollows, as well as in our choice of grasses and the subsequent tree and shrub planting". Bob Knott is the other member of the project design team and the course is being built by Contour Golf.

The course will use every natural feature offered by the land, the most prominent of these being the brook which will dominate the second 9 holes both strategically and aesthetically. Existing trees and woodland will give much of the golf course a mature feel from day one.

Construction of the golf course has already begun and it will open for play in Autum 2006.
