Silverdale Golf Club, Cumbria, UK Silverdale Golf Club is set in one of the most picturesque areas of England, UK, on the edge of Lake District. Roger Jones Golf Design was appointed by the Club and the Club's consultants Professional Sportsturf Design (NW) Ltd to design 6 new holes to extend the golf course to 18 holes.
What added to the design challenge was that the land for the extension was officially designated an 'area of outstanding natural beauty'. This imposed a number of very severe restrictions on what could be done on the land to build the new golf holes. Once the design proposal was prepared and submitted, a lengthy process of consultation with, and permission from, a number of UK statutory bodies had to be undertaken before the construction work could proceed.
Ultimately that permission was granted, and once completed the new holes were very well received by the Club members, many of whom never expected that their course would ever become 18 holes.
